What is website monitoring and why do I need it?
Website monitoring is the practice of continuously checking your website to ensure it's accessible, performing well, and secure. You need it because downtime costs money - studies show that even a few minutes of downtime can result in lost revenue, damaged reputation, and frustrated customers. MerySpeak automatically monitors your site and alerts you the moment something goes wrong, so you can fix issues before they impact your users.
How often does MerySpeak check my website?
Free plan users get checks every 5 minutes (288 checks per day). Pro plan users get checks every 1 minute (1,440 checks per day). More frequent checks mean faster detection of issues - with 1-minute monitoring, you'll know about problems within 60 seconds instead of waiting up to 5 minutes.
How do I get notified when my website goes down?
MerySpeak sends instant email alerts when your website becomes unreachable or returns an error status code. You'll receive another notification when your site comes back online, along with information about how long the outage lasted. You can also opt into weekly digest emails that summarize your website's performance.
Is there a limit to how many websites I can monitor?
Our free plan allows you to monitor your essential websites with full uptime tracking and alerts. Pro users get expanded limits and additional features like response time analytics and SSL monitoring. Contact us if you need to monitor a large number of websites for enterprise solutions.
What's the difference between uptime and response time monitoring?
Uptime monitoring checks if your website is accessible (returns a successful response). Response time monitoring measures how long it takes for your server to respond to requests. A site can be "up" but still have poor response times that frustrate users. Pro plan includes both metrics so you get a complete picture of your website's health.
Can I monitor websites that require authentication?
MerySpeak currently monitors publicly accessible URLs. For authenticated pages, you can monitor your login page or a public health check endpoint. We're working on adding support for authenticated monitoring in future updates.
How accurate is the uptime percentage?
Our uptime calculations are based on actual monitoring data collected at regular intervals. We track every check result and calculate uptime as the percentage of successful checks over the total number of checks in a given period. Incident logs record exact timestamps for when outages start and end, giving you precise downtime duration data.
